P3D Nintendo Game Boy Camera

In my last post I mentioned the Game Boy's 10th
anniversary. Okay big deal, but what caught my
3-D eye today was that I learned they are coming
out with an adaptor, that converts your Game Boy
into a Game Boy Camera!

Basically the imaging sensor is attached where the
game cartridge normally is inserted. The camera
attachment looks alot like the Connectix QuickCam
ball. You can save up to 30 images and edit them
right from the Game Boy. Seems like you can do alot
more stuff on this than on some high priced digital
cameras. Albeit b&w and poorer resolution. Still
the price is right ($50). Another drawback is that
no mention of connecting to a computer to import
images. But a printer (again for $50) is scheduled for
simultaneous release as the Game Boy Camera attachment.

Of coure this raises interesting possiblities such
as putting two Game Boys side by side and taking 3-D
pictures! Since they are rectangular vertically
oriented, the lenses spacing might not be too much.
And with the LCD display it is possible to view the
3-D images before taking them. Other non 3-D
possibilites would be as a inexpensive capturing
device for burglar alarms.

More info and pictures is available on the Nintendo
web site at,

Here are some high-lights from the web page.

There's no limit to the fun you can have when you
team up with the new Game Boy Camera! Clip, cut and
merge your black-and-white photos any way you want
to. Doctor your pictures with Game Boy Camera's paint
program and clip art. Print out your masterpieces with
the Game Boy Printer and stick em wherever you want!

Select your shot, then adjust the brightness and
contrast. Thanks to the 1800-swiveling big eye,
you can take a self-portrait. But snapping a
picture is only the beginning of your fun!

Store up to 30 shots in Game Boy Camera's photo
album. Don't like a picture? Just toss it out.

Stitch up to four pix together in Panorama editor.
With Montage editor, you can place one picture
inside another. Star in your own video game with
a Game Face animation.

Game Boy Camera is fully compatible with both the
Game Boy pocket and regular Game Boy. It is powered
by the Game Boy's power supply. Game Boy Camera
will be available June 1, 1998, at a manufacturer's
suggested retail price of $49.95.
