I won't quote Jonathan Gross's post, since it has appeared
numerous times already! ;-)

Jon reports about the HP slide adapter for flatbed scanners.
That is very interesting since flatbed scanners are dirt
cheap nowadays. It's about time someone came out with an
inexpensive adapter. I have toyed around with adapting my
flatbed and handheld scanner for film with limited success.
I doubt the HP adapter can do much better, which is not the
adapters fault but due to the limited capablity of inexpenive
flatbeds in scanning film.

As poor as I found the inexpensive scanners to be, they work
great at scanning in whole VM reels! And it only cost me $2
in materials, not including the battery powered fluorescent
lamp.

Check out two resolutions that I have done with an old handheld
scanner. The first one is 734x698 163k, and the second one is
1632x1448 523k. If your browser can't handle the large second
image, don't load it but rather save it your HD and view it
offline with any paint program.

As Jon points out it's good for cataloging but that's about it.
I have had much better success with a videocam and a Snappy.
You might remember some of my conversions of VM reels, Realist
mounts, and 3Discover cassettes. Check out,
