Important Changes at Cascade Stereoscopic Club
I am proud to announce that CSC is now an officially registered non-profit
corporation with a tax exempt status. This is the culmination of the work
by our resident attorney and club member, Diane Rulien and the Board of
Directors. Achieving this status has been the goal of our club almost from
the beginning, but as most organizations of our size, conflicts of time and
energy has delayed this status until now.
What does it mean for us to be a registered tax-exempt organization? What
are the advantages and disadvantages?
With our new status, we will be able to apply for private and public grants
more easily than before and our chances of obtaining such will be
increased. Also, as a tax-exempt organization potential donors might be
able to deduct their donation to the full extent of the law.
With potential benefits come also some challenges. As a corporation, we
need to keep good financial and legal records and the authorities may
examine those at any time. We need also to conduct our activities based on
our by-laws.
In my opinion, and the opinion of our members, the benefits outrank the
challenges, and the challenges are good for the growth of our club.
I am interested to learn more about the legal status of other stereoscopic
clubs around the world, and I would welcome some discussion from members of
other clubs on this issue.
