I have received a number of requests off line for more detailed
information concerning HP's 35mm Slide adapter. Therefore, I thought
I'd make this short follow-up posting.

The adapter is a standard accessory with the new HP Scanjet 6100C
scanner. HP claims to only support it for the 6100C scanner, but I used
it successfully with an HP4C. I do not know why it would not work with
non-HP scanners, as long as the lamp and sensor are in roughly the same
relationship to each other as on the 6100C.

Here is a URL for a more complete description of the device:

,here is a picture of the scanner and the 35mm slide adapter:

,and here is how to locate your nearest HP retailer (in case you've been
in hibernation for the last 20 years):

You'll notice that HP is very careful to display the patent number on
the device because it is so simple (and elegant, I might add). I'm not
a lawyer, but I think it is possible to make one for your own use, as
long as you don't sell it. For (a rumored) $24.95, you can make up your
own mind.
