After 2 more hours work, improved the picture scanned with
the HP
Slide Adapter a little, with suggestions from Eric
Goldstein. Put up
the new version under the old one.
The main problem with the device is that it introduces
artifacts
which look like scan lines. Maybe this is the result of the
light
source being bounced off of two "mirrors" before it hits the
slide. Maybe someone will figure out how to fix this
problem.
All in all, not too bad (for $10-I recommend getting 2 so
you
won't need to re-position the slide.) The original scans
were
about twice as large as those seen on my Web page. I
re-sampled them to the smaller size for easy freeviewing.
About 500 pixels wide for each image would be about
the max for a 600 dpi scanner, so the output would be OK
for Web pages, but that's about all.
