P3D HP champions!
--pledge break mode on ---
And now, a word from your local PBS stationxxxxx - oops - wrong
pledge break...
>From time to time HP (as in Hewlett Packard) makes some trade-in/surplus
computer equipment available for donation to higher education institutions.
We had some HP stuff in Texas which enabled our initial entry into UNIX and
thus lead to the mailing list(s) from there.
Now that I'm here in Montana, this topic has come up again (as a result
of a solicitation for proposals by HP). The stereo fly in the ointment is
that the procedure to follow has to involve an HP "Champion" who is
an employee of the company. Putting out a message here is bending the
rules a bit as it appears that HP likes the sponsoring employee to be
local or otherwise tightly involved with the requesting institution.
However, to this point I've not been able to find anyone locally, nor
has the alumni association found an HP person from here (although I'm
sure there must be). There are, of course, a ton of people in Boise
(includeing some from my digital design classes prior to coming here),
but that does me no good over here in Montana.
It sure would be nice to get some equipment donated so that we could
shift the mailing list(s) over to HP-UX and devote a machine to that
(plus erecting firewalls and so for forth for security).
If anyone who has connections at HP would feel comfortable in lending
a hand with this, kindly drop me a note back direct and maybe we can
get something going.

THANKS!
