For those who are planning to attend the SID '98 conference in Anaheim next
month, a paper in session 48 may be interestingly relevant to the recent
discussion on JPEG and stereo:

48.4: The Effect of JPEG Coding Scheme on the Perceived Quality of 3-D Images

   Nankai University, Tianjin, China

   The effect of JPEG coding scheme on the perceived quality of 3-D images
   was investigated by using the CCIR subjective assessment method. Lossy
   compression affected the quality of 3-D image pairs less than that of
   2-D images of the same scene.
