P3D internegative film?

I need help with what film to use for slide-to-print copies. I've
been using a dupe-tube and Kodak Gold Max film to make my own prints from
stereo slides. Results are OK, but as expected a bit contrasty. I've
heard of 'internegative film,' but my local pro camera shop says you need
special 'color balancing' equipment to use it successfully.

Has anyone got experience to pass along with internegative film?

TIA
