P3D Re: Tom - Enjoy Stereo - KISS!

Forgive me for addressing a topic from several weeks ago. It has been a
while since I have submitted anything to, or even read, P3D. Hectic
times at work have put me about 3 weeks behind in all other activities.
I have missed you all very much.
I join Bill Walton in his encouraging message to Tom Deering, a new
stereographer in our midst, to ENJOY! Don't worry, be happy, etc. I am
still a very new stereo photographer (about 3 years), who uses a single
SLR to do macro stereo (see archives). As John pointed out (thanks! {:>)
), I am also shooting live critters with this rig. I use my Revere
sometimes for scenery or where there will be obvious movement. If you
look up my article in the archives, you will see that I do not place a
great deal of emphasis on technical details. I just do it. It happens.
I'm happy. That's what matters. Like the rest of us, once you delve
further into this experience, you will become more critical of your
results and you will then want to do more research on how to improve
your results. This is how I also learned photography in general (20
years ago). You will need some technical information at some point, but
you don't have to cram it all in at the beginning. I have known of so
many people who have been scared off of doing things they really wanted
to do because they found out too much too soon. It can be overwhelming
sometimes. I encourage everyone to use the KISS rule (Keep It Simple,
Silly) and build from there. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, and, at
times, we should enjoy it! You will know when it's time to take the next
step. When you are ready, there are plenty of supporters here at P3D
ready to lend a hand.
I would like to thank my (stereo) friends at the Potomac Society of
Stereo photographers in Washington, DC for their support, encouragement,
and help. It is with their guidance that I am able to confidently
promote myself as a stereo photographer and continue to enjoy this
fascinating off-shoot of my passion of photography.

p.s. As for technical points for ME personally, I still have no idea how
far I move the camera between left and right shots, but I still enjoy my
PSA gold medal!
p.p.s. I do recommend that the first technical point to learn is the
"stereo window."
