P3D Another Editor's Point of View

Forgive me gang; I'm still a few days behind in P3D, but I wanted to add
my comments on publications. As an editor for local camera clubs, a
council, and a PSA Chapter for over seven years, in my opinion, the
blame for a less-than-expected publication lies equally with the editor
AND the (potential) writers. I have heard so much bellyaching about why
don't we see this or why don't we see that, but there are times when I
have asked the same people to submit an article and they run and hide!
Each type of organization addresses different issues at different
levels. The clubs are obviously going to concentrate on their own
activities and include some level of history and/or technique, Councils
report on the member club activities and include some general articles
of interest, Chapters report on member activities and parent
organization activities plus acticles of interest, and so forth and so
on. Not being a member of NSA (yet) or having even seen an issue of
Stereo World, I do not know the history of either the organization or
the magazine, but it would seem to me that by the opinions and critiques
expressed on P3D, that they are following through with articles that
support the MAIN idea and drive behind the organization. If NSA has
shifted gears and is including more modern photography as well as
collecting and history, then their magazine should reflect this change.
It may take longer for the printed page to catch up with the physical
world, though, so I'm sure if you'll be patient, you will see more of
what you expect, or at least want. In the mean time, I can only
encourage ANY 3-D photographer to submit their articles in multiple
places (local, PSA, NSA, ISU). There are, of course, no promises, but I
doubt if you will get rejected! And if you are really desperate to get
into print, I am ALWAYS looking for articles for my stereo club!!!! I
can beg, whine, cry, and demand just as much as the next editor, if
that's what it takes!

p.s. A nice letter to the editor, stating your request and opinion may
be all that's needed to set the wheels of change in motion. An article
submission or reference to other people who might be willing to write is
always appreciated.

p.p.s. I doubt that magazines like Outdoor Photographer, Pop Photog,
ShutterBug, etc., bang on people's doors demanding articles, so let's
not put all the blame on the editors.
