C'mon, Greg, are you seriously comparing wood carving to 3D
picture-taking? *ANYONE* can pick up a Loreo, Nimslo, etc., and
point'n'shoot a genuine 3D picture. Dr. T. would even argue that the
same is true for a Realist. :-) A beginner's results may not be
particularly noteworth, particularly if they don't already have a solid
photographic background, but they WILL get a 3D picture, all their very
own. Woodcarving (at least with any degree of artistry beyond the
proto-human in the result) is just a BIT more complicated, requires a
set of specialized chisels, etc. Not to mention imagination, artistic
vision... You get the picture. :-)

Also way more complicated. Requires at least a 5mW laser (not YET a
common household item, ignoring the laser diodes in CD players which
don't have nearly enough output power), a heavy sandbox or a
vibration-isolated optical bench, beamsplitters (yes, Virginia, the real
ones), first-surface mirrors, a darkroom, chemicals, lots of time, care
and effort... Again, no comparison to simple snapshot 3D,
send-your-film-out-for-processing-get-the-finished-results-back
photography.

I write songs, music and lyrics. I play all the instrumental parts, I
sing, and I arrange and record my own demos in my home studio. I guess
because I can do it, I should expect everybody to be able to, huh? At
least by your logic... Yet I do think *anybody* can easily get into 3D
photography, and be happy with the results.

Sorry, don't agree. 3D photography: It ain't rocket science. (TM) :-)
