P3D Re: 3-D CD pricing

Like Dana, I have not signed up for the 3-D CD yet because I
think the
price is on the high side. Compare the extremely reasonable
$7 price
that Fred Peters will charge for his stereo card CD.

I don't subscribe to the labor theory of value. Many of us
put hundreds
of hours of work into the things we do, but the value of the
product is
determined by those willing to buy it-not by our time or
marketing and design costs.

I have a rewritable CD drive and I have spent countless
hours just
trying to create a slideshow CD of photographs that I can
send to
relatives, so I understand all the work involved. By the
way, blank
Ricoh CD-R disks cost me $1.50 each ($1 each with current
$25 mfr
rebate).

I would offer to copy some 3D material to CD at cost, as
time permits,
if I can ever resolve my SCSI, scanner, DVD, and Windows 98
Beta
problems ;-).

I have also noticed high prices on the sell-3d list. Someone
says
they are looking for a low-priced Realist 3.5, and some
seller replies
they have one for $140. Where I come from, that is a high
price.

Let's see, we have 3-D hobbyists, shooters, and collectors.
I would
like to add another category: sellers, or wannabe 3D
retailers.
I am not saying that is bad, but I think retailer ideas on
pricing
(and perhaps goals for 3D) are far different from mine, as a
hobbyist.
