The opening is about 6.5 perf (about an inch wide), so 7-P "almost"
fits. I calculated it more exactly and posted it maybe six months
ago. Check the archives for details.
If one "optimizes" one's screen placement so 7P is a bit wider than
the screen (in order to make 5P's fill the screen more), and then
uses a 7P slide in the projector, nobody will be the wiser. The
carrier will act as the mask horizontally rather than the screen.
How's that for an optimist's point of view?
Anyway, just try it and see. Costs nothing to do so. I have and it
does in fact mask 7P slides, but the part that is projected is a
good bit wider than 5P.
Looking at the carrier, widening the opening doesn't look like the
tough job (with patience and sharp dremel bits) so much as making
the blanking "curtain" work with the wider opening. I once had an
idea about that, but have had no time to pursue it. So go ahead
and come up with a working solution and let all of us know!
The rest of the projector has no problem with the larger area to
be covered (it comes with a mono-8P carrier as well).
