I too have seen this phenomenon as well.  I seem to remember sometime
years ago that you could stare at something bright yellow and then turn
away and see an after image of that object.  In fact, right now I can
stare at all the post-it notes on my monitor and then turn away and see
their haunting after image.  A gruesome reminder that I really need to
get some work done!
