Don't blame you.  I just got junk mail today from somebody who was
harvesting email addresses off stereo camera transactions on eBay.  To his
credit, he used a real return address.  So it's not quite spam.  But it's
still junk mail.

Using mailing lists, newsgroups and archives is an old trick.  My mail
filters have caught three hundred pieces of junk mail since January 1st.  I
use Eudora to filter it out and throw it away unread.
