P3D Stalking the Wild Stereo Camera

I would like to relate a couple of experiences I have had on this
subject(1). We went to Flensburg Germany in 1988. During this visit as in
the past, my wife visited with her mother and I made stereographs of
Flensburg and the surrounding area. As I walked thru the downtown area,
Realist around my neck, I noticed one guy kept looking at my camera. The
next day the same thing happened again, but this time he came up to me
and asked if I could speak German. When I told him yes, he wanted to
know if the Realist really makes 3-D pictures. I pulled a stereo card
and a lorgnette viewer out of my camera bag and asked. him to try it. He
was very enthusiastic and invited me to a nearby outdoor restaurant for a
glass of wine. In the course of our conversation I found out he was some
sort of official in the Schleswig-Holstein state education system and had
the idea of teaching school kids about traffic regulations and safety
using some sort of 3-D. After much discussion he decided that anaglyphs
in books, using red and gree glasses was the way to go. I gave him a
whole list of addresses concerning anaglyphs and we parted the best of
friends.
(2)On the way to NSA San Diego in 1993 we stopped for three days in
Tucson and visited the local attractions, including the "DOVE OF THE
DESERT'' mission. I was making stereographs of the mission when a bus
full of Japanese tourists arrived. When they got off the bus 4 of them
came to me wanting to know all about the Realist I was using. They had
heard of stereo cameras, but had never seen one.
(3) During my trip to Japan last summer I was shooting stereographs at
the reception the city gave for us. One man came up and asked "Is than
an antique camera"? I answered yes and I am an antique Stereographer .
We started talking cameras and he told me that his grandfather had a
camera like mine and he would show it to me sometime. At the Columbus
Day Tea he showed up with his grandfather's OWLA stereo camera and asked
me if I could show him how it works. After about a 10 minute discussion
he said he understood and was going to start shooting stereo pictures.
I am the only stereographer in my county and I am frequently asked about
the stereo camera I am carrying.
The only person carrying a stereo camera, other than at NSA Conventions,
that I have seen, was a guy using a Nishika at nearby Callaway Gardens.
I happened to be using my Nishika that day, making BW stereographs. He
didn't know much about stereo, but was very enthusiastic and seemed
delighted to hear that he could shoot BW and make stereo cards.
