It's something else.  The Vivitar jack is unique to Vivitar.  
You don't really want to plug your peanut slave directly 
into the Vivitar anyway.  The sensor would point out to one 
side.  With a short PC cord you can point the sensor toward 
your main flash for greatest sensitivity.  That's what 
works best for me.  Vivitar makes a slave that goes under 
the hot shoe.  This sounds convenient, but it isn't.  The 
sensor on this points forward.  I end up using a PC cord 
and taping it on the side toward the camera.  (BTW, for 
those who are confused, "PC" stands for Prontor-Compur, 
the shutter makers who originated the miniature coaxial 
flash connector, which very few stereo cameras use without 
adapters.)
