Dan: First you wanted us to pay for it.
Now we have to give opinions??? :-)
My copy just arrived, so I haven't got too far into it yet. I like the
packaging, and including the glasses is a great idea.
So far it seems easy to get to the content, and putting links to the
current web versions of the included sites is handy to check for
updates.
I can't begin to comprehend the amount of work you put into this
project. Congratulations on a great job, and thanks for putting
together this unique time-slice of the 3D web.
One note on searching the CD; I have on my computer the AltaVista
Personal Indexer for Win95, and just used it to index my entire system,
including the 3D-CD. I can now use the retrieval program, in
conjunction with Netscape (also works with IE), to provide a local
interface identical to the web-based AltaVista search engine; this
allows searching by word or phrase of all indexed items on my computer.
This makes it extremely easy to retrieve information from the 3D-CD -
for example, a search for "realist red button" instantly returned 398
documents from the CD. Interestingly, restricting the search to
documents which also contain the word "Themelis" only cuts this down to
297 matches, although I suspect this is because each digest is a single
document, and there are few digests which don't contain this word
somewhere in the text!
