Thanks George, 

I've noticed the same thing.  Small bulbs with screw on
bases are very rare in halogen. I found a few sources that
claimed to be able to get an E6 Halogen from China (by way
of Europe) but they required large minimum orders- also I
was told by their distributors that they are of suspect
quality.  

I found it would be easier to change my viewer to
accommodate the large variety of slip in halogen and xenon
lights which are available.  Unfortunately I have found the
sockets are impossible to find so I have to make them from
scratch out of copper or cut them out of cheap flashlights. 
Not for the faint of heart.
