Could it be that in the theater where you were witnessing these
ghastly apparitions, they didn't have the lights properly
extinguished? Boo! ;-)
Seriously, I think if there is a bit too much ambient light, this
might have caused it. In the theaters I've been to (darker?), I
didn't notice it enough to be bothersome.
Strangely enough (compared to most others on this list), I loved
the "in your lap 3-D" (tm). My first 3-D Imax movie was The Last
Buffalo, which had the most "in your lap 3-D" from any other
subsequent Imax 3-D movie I've seen. I was kinda disappointed
that they didn't.
