P3D Stereo viewfinder for a stereo camera

Please give your comments on the following:

In The Netherlands you can can get very simple,
'Made in China' toy binoculars. They have really
cheap, plastic, lenses. Specifications around
4 x 28. Isn't it possible to use these as cheap
binocular / stereo viewfinders ?
The ones I have can be adjusted +/- whatever and
the IPD goes from 35mm to 80mm. Fix it to your
own IPD with a couple of 'quick glue' drops.
For Realist lovers: You can fix it to the tripod
socket under the camera. For Kodak and others you
can use the 'foot' of an old 'Bulb flash' to shove
it in your hot shoe. You can use it for distances
about 10 feet and up. Any comments please or is
this a really stupid idea ?
The binoculars will set you back somewhere around
$4 when bought new and $1 if you can find them
on fleamarkets.

Cheers,

Peter
