The insertion fee is based upon the minimum bid or the reserve
price, whichever is HIGHER.
So there is no advantage to doing that.

That's part of why someone who doesn't have blind faith that a $1 starting
bid with no reserve might use a reserve for their conservative positioning
rather than a high starting amount.
In my VERY small ebay selling experience, a no-reserve very-low minimum
works remarkably well most of the time, but *sometimes* that dirt-low
minimum is what it sells at.
