If you want to see an example of a commercial product look at page 109 of
"Jules Richard et la Magie du Relief" by Jacues Perin (1993).  It shows what
looks like a pair of binoculars hooked onto a Verascope Grand Luxe (1931).
The camera and binoculars are attached to a plate with vertical adjustment,
mounted on a tripod.  The caption reads "VERASCOPE e'quipe' de Jumelies pour
photographies te'le'scopiques."
