P3D Detroit - June Report

  • From: fj834@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Dr. George A. Themelis)
  • Subject: P3D Detroit - June Report
  • Date: Thu, 11 Jun 1998 12:04:02 -0400 (EDT)

Another exciting meeting (and the last one for the year) last night in
Detroit, included the "Slide of the Year" presentation, Awards and
Elections and discussion on club issues for next year.

Congratulations to the Award Recipients:

- Dennis Hanser, First Place and Charles Helin Award. (Dennis' stellar
performance won him first place with highest score ever recorded in the
  club's history!)

- George Themelis, Second Place

- Bob Chamberlain, Third Place

Our "very own", Paul Talbot, captured fourth place in his first year of
competing. Congratulations Paul!

Slide of the Year, "Wood Frame" was won by Martha Dombeck. HMs were given
to Jerry Chisnell, Dennis Hanser (2) and Eli DeVirgilio. The judging was
done by "I'am no rocket scientist" H. Lee Pratt, APSA, of Huntsville AL,
using a red button viewer (and not projection - ???).

The competition assignments chosen for next year are very
tough/challenging:

- Kids
- Cityscapes
- Creative Blur
- Faces
- Shadows
- Glass and Metal
- At the Farm

Dennis Hanser thinks I had something to do with these, since Kids (& Faces
of kids) and Cityscapes are two of my favorite subjects. Plus, I work for
the Metals industry, take my kids to the farm, and have many blurred
pictures (the non-creative type :-)).

Well, I had nothing to do with these choices, but don't mind giving Dennis
a hard time. There is a pattern developing here: 1, 2, 1, 2.... (these are
my placements in 4 years in Detroit... can you guess the next number? :-))
Dennis, on the other hand, has not been around for too long to establish a
pattern: 2, 1, ... ??? But with Paul and other members improving, it is
going to be an interesting year.

Detroit is celebrating 50 years in 1999, being established in 1949, very
early for a stereo club with only one US stereo camera in the market
(Realist!!!) It is a friendly club with nice people and good programs.
Meetings are held every second Wednesday of the month and resume in
September. Give it a try!!!!
