P3D HP ScanJet Slide Adapter works!

A few weeks ago there was a thread on P3D about the inexpensive HP
ScanJet Slide Adapters. I bought two and tried them with a stereo slide
on my UMAX scanner. The images came out so dark they were unusable. I
think I've figured out the problem.

The units don't sit flat, rather they are canted a few degrees. It
occurred to me today that the reason they are canted is because the
scanner's lamp and sensor are separated by a fraction of an inch. The
slight tilt insures that the light reflected off the Slide Adapter's
mirrors lines up with the sensor. I flipped the Adapters around, and low
and behold got a usable scan. Test results at 72 dpi are shown on
http://user.icx.net/~jfairstein/scanslide.html.
