Andrea,
  The 'same-sided' edge of the mount should line up with the two
'near' lines on the mounting guage.
  That is, if it is 55mm between the left edge of the left opening in
the mount and the left edge of the right opening, you should use the
gauge that has it's near-point lines separated by 55mm.  This can be
checked visually, by laying the mount on top of the gauge, and making
sure that the near-lines line up with the mount.
  When mounting chips, placing the nearest object on the near-lines will
place the object _at_ the stereo window.  If shooting with a bar, or
twin cameras, align the near points, and make sure that the distant
points aren't too far apart (beyond the far-line) for projection.
  The RBT mounts that I've seen, were spaced at the same distance of
the 'European' near point marks.  I haven't seen all sizes of the RBT
mount though.
