Paul is correct. There is a possibility of a strike, although I have heard
that the Northwest mechanics may go out sooner than the pilots. Of course
neither one may actually go out on strike and there could be a Presedential
Emergency Board to halt the strike like happened at my airline a year or so
ago. If either one goes out it will not be a good time to be on NWA, although
other carriers may honor your ticket?
I fly with a major airline for a living and have had a few layovers in
the Richmond area. There is a "bad" area of town like in most cities, so I
recommend not traveling by yourself, especially at night -- on foot. On one
of my Richmond layovers, I was pursued by one individual in broad daylight.
He was gaining ground on me and only stopped pursuing when I turned and
confronted him in a rather aggressive manner. I am 6' 3'' 205 lbs., but this
person was willing to come after me -- initially. Fortunately, our little
confrontation ended with only a few unfreindly remarks - but it was broad
daylight and he was alone. At one of the McDonald's there was an armed
security cop inside and I was quite happy to see him there. Be carefull out
there, this is not a little sleepy hollow town.
