Let me echo Steve's warnings.

It can be a big problem to travel to an unknown city for any of us.
In Rochester, several incidents occurred to NSA members. None of
this could be prevented by anyone involved in the planning and
operation of the convention but it was a shame that the convention
was disrupted for those folks. One even had his stereo camera
stolen from his RV parked out front in the hotel's "oval".

When we went on our site inspection to Arizona in the fall of last
year, we used the downtown Phoenix Hyatt Regency's valet service
and the VALET stole all of the stuff out of the trunk of our car!
This included all of the stereo goodies we picked up along the way
during trip out West and our vacation souvenirs. (Needless to say
that is why we picked the Sheraton in Mesa.) A sad story when
the stuff taken was basically "worthless" to him.

Everyone needs to be more aware of their surroundings when traveling
in a strange place. This is not unique to NSA conventions -- as a
matter of fact, except for Rochester, I can't remember anything ever
happening at a past convention. However, similar warnings are given
to members of other groups we travel with -- i.e. Shriners, business
groups,etc.

In Richmond we will be in the DOWNTOWN area and most large American cities
do have a crime problem in the inner city. It doesn't hurt
to use extra care and preventive techniques. Don't flash money
around, use the hotel's safe deposit box for valuables and have
your stereo camera firmly secured to your person! Watch what you
set down where and be aware of your surroundings. Most of us
travel in 3-D packs so there shouldn't be any problem.

Let's all meet there and have a safe, fun and exciting convention!

Vice President
