I've been projecting for many years and am finally pushed to chime in on
this one:
Vertical misalignments SHOULD be correceted, but SLOWLY! It's the QUICK
adjustments that pull on the audience's eyeball muscles. I also think that
strong horizontal misalignment or even strong ghosting should be adjusted,
but only if the projectionist is VERY competent! When I project, I generally
watch the screen ABOVE my glasses... one also has to realize that the
subsequent slide will more than likely have to be adjusted back to "normal"
or to whereever is optimal. Ideally, slides should be mounted well so no
adjustment is necessary- but if not, the bottom line is audience comfort and
enjoyment.
No one enjoys vertical error- if you adopt the "no adjustment" rule, I would
also suggest adopting the "remove the offending slide as quickly as
possible" rule, and teach the slidemaker how to mount for projection!.
