You're obviously not talking about a Kodak. One snap and it opens and
flips out of the way, completely freeing all the controls (except rewind
and double exposures). Some of the other cameras, maybe, with too many
controls to begin with... :--)

No. That's not easier for me.

Then I'd have the inconvenience of carrying all that other stuff (the bag,
accessories, film and possibly other cameras), instead of just the sleek
self-contained compactness of a single camera snugly cocooned in its fitted
case.

I'm possibly the exception on this list, or at least among the "talkatives"
on this list, but when I go out to shoot, I generally pick *which* camera
I'll be using and go with it. Even in a place like Disney World or Busch
Gardens, which end up captured on video as well as flat and stereo photos,
I will rarely carry more than one format at a time. A couple of extra
rolls of film in a pocket and I'm ready to boogie.

A field case strikes me as a highly functional item with minimal drawbacks
to its use. It protects the camera from rain sprinkles, bumps, scratches
and other assorted evils without substantially adding to its bulk or
detracting from its appearance.

Besides, too much equipment makes me feel like a pack animal and takes the
fun out of the hobby for me.

Might be laziness, might be the memory of the time in Ausable Chasm when I
didn't get the camcorder all the way *into* the bag before pulling the
stereo camera *out* . Out came the stereo camera and out came the
camcorder, only I wasn't hanging on to the camcorder. Camcorders don't
bounce as much as you'd think.
