P3D Pack Your Gear

A light day pack is a good way to carry your photo equipment. I find
bubble wrap protects my equipment and keeps my beverages chilled. A
pack is also a good place to carry your all weather gear. It allows you
to have your hands free to shoot. I carry my Realist in a case because
I have done damage to a Revere and Kodaks while working up some slopes.
Sometimes it pays to slip your camera in your pack, but generally it is
worth keeping out.
I like to carry a light meter but only use it in changing light. I try
to guess what the meter will read before I meter. I will often check
the level of light from the ground, rocks, sky, and skin. I kind of
point it into the shade or at a leaf. I will cast the shadow of my hand
on the meter to prevent direct illumination when I meter sunsets. After
a while you guess pretty close, so you do not meter very often.
Then too, I would use camera cases when I shot weddings or for an
insurance shoots. A spare roll in a coat pocket is OK if you are close
to your car. I guess it is important that you carefully assess what
your need.
Remember: If your carry more than one camera people will think that you
are 1)a dork 2)a professional photographer 3) both.
