P3D Film Dupe/Realist to Viewmaster Q.
Greetings once again from the new and the clueless.
Okay, the ultimate goal is a very, very small production run of
Viewmaster reels, let say a "micro-set" of 3 reels, maybe 5 or 10 copies
of the 3-reel set produced, all done manually, cut and mounted in the
reels with my own hands (massive volume and cost certainly preclude
going any commercial production route). I've got a Viewmaster camera
and film cutter, borrowed from my brother-in-law, who inherited it,
won't sell it, it sits in a box in his closet gathering dust, etc, etc,
but never mind all that. Viewmaster is preferred "end user media" due
to large installed base and "economy" of viewing devices.
I want to shoot, then have the film duplicated to yield maybe 5 or 10
duplicate rolls, all uncut.
Is this doable? I'm not very smart about slide duplication. I've seen
that you can take a photo (on slide film) of a slide using a slide
copying device and a 35 mm camera..., but that's not what I'm after.
Two things I can think of...
1. Maybe load the Viewmaster camera with a roll of "duplicating film"
(Ektachrome 5071?), which maybe exposes as negatives?, then somehow,
photomagically, a photo lab can dupe this somehow onto "regular"
transparency slide film? So, I shoot a "master roll" on unknown or
misunderstood filmstock A, and have continuous-roll copies produced on
E6. Gotta be reproduced on a roll as registration is critical when
using the VM film cutter. I've only ever shot E6/K14, so I really have
no idea.
2. I do have a Realist, which I own, and the Viewmaster, which is
borrowed. What if I shoot, process, mount Realist pairs... and somehow
figure out how to build a copy rig so that I can then shoot the Realist
pairs with the Viewmaster? If I shot C41 and mounted negatives in
Realist mounts, and somehow had a copy rig, shooting with E6 in the
Viewmaster, would that do it? Seems a very involved way to get from A
to B.
Any clever ideas out there? Hopefully any learned voices of experience
from the Tribal Elders of P3D?
Thanks,
Michael Georgoff
