<Whine on>
I've been mounting a number of slides recently, using the above projector.
This evening I noticed that the switch that turns both the fan and right
lamp on was malfunctioning, ie., not always turning the lamp off with
functioning it several times, but I finally turned the unit off and went
about my evening activities. Later, I noticed a smell of something
cooking, like bakelite(sp?) or something similar. Went over the house sniffing
all the possible areas responsible, then into the dining/projection room .
Saw a dim glow from the projector (orange), no fan though). I'm sure that
I turned it off :-( Anyway, the right bulb had swelled to twice its
diameter, the unit was hot as, well, heck, polarizers melted (mainly on
the right side, not surprisingly), black paint burned off of any metal on
the right side in the optical assembly (condensors, heat filter, etc.),
and a spot on the first element next to the burned-out lamp where it
had tried to glue itself to the glass <whine off>.
What I'd like to do is put a new switch in, repaint the burned areas with
a heat-resistant paint, try to remove the spot (melted glass(?)) on the
first optic. The shiny (mirror) behind the lamp seem not to have
visibly suffered any damage. What I have are new lamps and polarizer set
purchased in the past. What I need is your experience/advice in obtaining
a new switch (15A), paint to use, new glass if needed, and a source for
any manual which will show me a schematic for the projector. I did
determine that the switch will turn the fan on, but the the voltage to the
right bulb is always on, whether the fan is running or not, so it needs to
go. Appreciate any help/advice offered. I'd like to be able to reproject
my newly mounted slides again before I send some of them out to you who
have offered to examine them and provide feedback, so will hold off 'till
the projector is repaired.
