And, on the subject of mounting, I read somewhere (Fritz Waack?) that
only one end of a chip should be secured (usually the bottom, instead of
the top), as to allow for expansion if the slide is projected. (Which I
someday hope to do...) I note the RBT mount, as typically used. will
only secure one end. But, the Albion aluminum mounts were designed to
hold both top and bottom, thus not allowing any room for expansion.
And, some guides suggest both ends, and Reel 3D show mounting adhesive
tabs on both ends. I'd feel the chip is more secure it taped on both
ends, and I don't want to get hundreds of mounts down the road, and upon
projection, realize I've done it wrong... Any theories, comments, advice
on top and bottom secured?

Why not try the Wess tabs from the Reel 3D catalog with your RBT or
spicer rigs....they are removeable if you need to make an adjustment. I
use them with RBT's all the time..especially if I am "floating" a
chip....meaning I took a cha-cha ("cha-cha" as Paul Wing calls it) ...or
side shift stereo shot with a mono SLR...and I need to move the image
around to correct for rotational errors..independent of the calibrated
lock in that the white slider bars give you in an RBT. ...then I can
easily adjust horizontal, vertical...and rotational problems.
If anyone reading this is going to NSA....come to my workshop on slide
mounting on Friday afternoon to see this and a lot more on slide
mounting....including the new SAM stereo active mounter...that lets you
active see your image, magnafied, in stereo as you mount it.
