Wow, that's not my experience at all.  Most people I show my slides to are
quite fascinated by them.

I show them in two situations.  a) I keep a cheap viewer with me when I
shoot stereo.  It has a nice slide permanently mounted inside.  That
answers the question "why shoot stereo" damn quick.  People are generally
quite taken by this quick little demo.  And b), I bring a lighted viewer
when I attend certain functions or family events.  I pass it around to all
interested, and discuss how stereo photos are taken.

When I mention stereo photography, there is usually no recognition.  But
when they see those slides, they light right up.
