P3D Flash (VM, kinda) Question

For the last 2 years I've been building View Master flash adaptors of
various configurations, styles and fashion. I now have a huge garbage bag of
'em.  Not that I'm too cheap to buy Dalia's, but this has become a matter of
principle to me.  I finally hit on a possible "good one" and its working
fine (legnthy, boring details upon request) but now suddenly I'm getting
double flashes.  Not that I'm sure my adaptor is at fault, but rather it
seems that I'm getting a flash on 'shutter button in' and on 'shutter button
release'.  (This could be my imagination, you know).  Who's at fault - me or
the camera?  Any sugestions will be warmly welcomed and appreciated.
