I clearly remember getting a VM for Christmass from my 'girl friend'
when I was 8 years old - in the third grade. The memory of that 3D
viewing experience has remained vivid for all these years.
I also recall that on one occasion my parents told me that we were
going to see VM reels PROJECTED - reels that a neighbor had collected
on vacation at places like Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, etc. I was
_EXTREMELY_ dissapointed when the 'show' was in simple 2D.
There's no doubt that I was seeing VM reels in 3D with the viewer almost
50 years ago.
I'm also sure that my children, ages 8 and 10, see VM, 'Realist' format
slides, antique stereoviews, ViewMagic views, Virtual Boy games, etc.
and even Magic Eye stereograms in 3D.
FUNNY STORY TIME - a few years ago when the children were much younger,
we took them to the NSA convention in San Antonio. At that time they
had never been to a movie theater. At the convention, they saw many
3D slides projected (for the first time) and, of course, viewed them
with polarized glasses.
Months later, as we were driving with our son to his FIRST movie
theater experience, we told him that we would be in big room with lots
of people, and we would see pictures on a big screen. Apparently
remembering the NSA convention, he commented that we had forgotten to
bring our 3D glasses! I think he was 4 years old at that time.
