P3D NSA Report

Well, what a grand time! It was great to meet lots of folks from P3D. I
didn't make it to the internet meeting on Thursday {:>( , but we were
bumping into each other all over the place. Dan Shelley and Bill (Who is
Bill?) Walton were in deep discussion over the new P3D CD in the making.
Boris had lots of interested attendees at his Trade Fair table (sold
most of his images fairly early, I understand). Dr. T, or course, had a
large crowd around his table most of the time. Jon Golden had a
wonderful display of RBT products and was set up next to Bob Brackett
and his projectors (now, if I had only won the lottery...). Bill Davis
did a great program on home projects for your stereo hobby (mostly
viewers - I never knew there were so many uses for a VM viewer!, but
also a nifty gadget for focusing the TDC projector. Met Alex Klein and
Tom Deering (the man in the red polyester suit) and several others,
whose names I can't recall at the moment (but they were all very nice).
Joel Alpers had a very interesting table of goodies, as did Harry
Richards. Mary Ann Sell had a large table of VM reels and a cute VM
business card. Wolfgang was promoting the new Stereo Library and had
several photos of the existing displays. I personed the PSA table and
drafted several new PSA members. There was also a large number of
Potomac Society of Stereo Photographer members in attendance (you know
who you are!).
The programs were absolutely breath-taking. There was VM, anamorphic
(wide screen), 2x2, video, and realist mounted formats. Robert Bloomburg
received the award for best program from a repeat exhibitor for his show
on Tuscany. The best first time presenter award went to (Sorry - don't
have the person's name with me) for a fantastic and entertaining show
called "The Kitchen Sink." Congratulations. The shows varied from
educational to travel to humorous and more. I know I was impressed. I
also came away with a few ideas of my own! {:>)
The workshops were great. I attended several of them and each one was
very informative. There was everything from beginning to advanced
stereo, card mounting (VERY good), camera case stitching, publishing
stereo views, slide mounting, show&tell, and more. There was some very
good information presented and I think we have hooked a few more people
on to stereo. We may even get a few new P3Ders out of this.
The Trade Fair was unbelievable; at least for me, as this was my first
stereo conference. So much to choose from. I really would have liked to
get one of the stereo macro Realists (only $4500 and $6000), but my
budget only afforded me an under-over viewer, a few post cards, some
squeeze viewers to carry with me, a mini tripod, and a new camera for my
husband. This was a card collectors dream. Rows and rows of stereo cards
and lots of VM reels, too. Quite a selection of cameras in various
conditions. Lots of viewers of all types. I think I actually drooled at
one point.
In all, it was well worth going to. It was also attractive that it was
so close to home for me. I hope everyone is gearing up for Green Bay
next year!
