This started to happen to mine right before the take-up reel slipped to the point
where I couldn't use it. I finally had to send it to Jess Powell but it is
costing me more than the camera cost to get it repaired. I've seen overlapping
through my 1 year (30 rolls) use of the camera. I've seen several posts on the
list which mention the problem, enough that I am confident it is a flaw in the
camera. I will report when I get the camera back from Jess if he was able to fix
it.

This happened to me with the camera. I think it has to do with the tension on the
film. It will start to build up sort of a reverse tension. It will then get to
the point of having no tension or sometimes reverse tension and spin the reel the
other way. What I do is continue to rewind until the film is all the way in the
canister. Over rewind through the periods of no or reverse tension. This will
ensure that you do not expose the film. I was also able to limit this by trying
to tighten the film while winding, that is slightly putting tension on both knobs
to ensure even winding. I don't recommend this however because I think it may
have contributed to the take-up reel slippage which causes the overlapping. All
of the things that you have described seem to be peculiar to the camera and don't
occur when I use a Realist. Fred Peters recommended to me to add an extra loop
around my take-up reel. That may help.
