P3D Sick Baby on My Doorstep

A friend just sent me a Nishika in the mail, as a gift.  I have two
questions:

1.  Does this mean he's not my friend anymore?

2.  The shutter is open and I can't persuade it to close.  Is this a
common, simple malfunction that I can fix with my small brain and big
thumbs?
