I must say that one of the breakthroughs for me was when I started using a
working light meter.  The sunny 16 rule is okay in a pinch, and it might be
fine for the old timers that know when to apply it and how to cheat it.
But no guesstimate is going to yield the kind of photos that a $20 light
meter will.
