I must admit, I got a nice chuckle out of this one.
Meters are notoriously stupid devices that see the entire world as
middle grey and are easily fooled. Human brains (at least some of them)
have far greater capability.
Use of the Sunny 16 Rule to derive exposure can enable one to learn a
great deal about light and how to interpret it. Slavish use of a meter
even in obvious situations can only train you to match up meaningless
numbers, from one dial to another. A meter is a very useful device in
difficult situations: deep woods, indoor available light for instance.
Your real breakthrough will come when you eschew using the meter
whenever possible.
