Dear Greg W:
Excellent observations! However we all seem to be talking around, rather than
to, the central question "What do you think of when you put camera to eye"?
Remember I am trying to get us to develop a "checklist" if you will of those
things that run through our minds as we pursue our photographic interests. For
myself, as I said before, the resulting image should be a good photograph
first and foremost. This encompasses many elements both aesthetic and
technical. As an example of what I am after let us examine "The rule of
thirds." Those of use familiar with this principle understand how to use it in
2D photography, but would you have any suggestions on how to apply this in a
photograph with the added dimension of depth? Do we mentally block out a grid
and place the subject 1/3 or 2/3 into plane of depth? Do you see where I'm
headed with this thought? I look forward to your comments.
Sincerely,
Mark Hatfield
