Excuse me for butting in. I'm not a major stereo practitioner but I think
all this discussion about math and simple technique is common to many
endeavors. My own personal opinion is that with any craft that involves as
much technique as photography in general and stereo in particular, it is
useful to gain theoretical background and then do your best to forget about
it (or for those more literal types - store it somewhere in the recesses of
the back of your mind) so you can get some work done - hopefully with some
inspiration behind it. This is mainly a creative endeavor. It seems the main
goal should be to have fun being creative.
And just as an aside, don't I recall that the icon of photography made
technical, the indomitable Mr. Adams, made the exposure for his Moonrise
Hernandez by the use of his own (granted - fairly sophisticated) version of
sunny 16 - using the moon?
