Michael Kaplan asked :
>Does anyone know if View-Master clones (viewers/reels)
> are still being
>made in Australia?
Mary Ann and Wolfgang or Michael Levine will
I am sure post a detailed response. I am however
certain that all three Australian manufacturers-
ViewMaster(Australia)
Sightseer
Photoscope
are no longer in production.
Nor is the other interesting Australian 3D system which
used the French Simda panoramic stereo camera-
produced by Hanimex- the VistaViewer.
Michael Levine has a very informative website which
includes lists of known reels by these manufacturers
and information on the history of VM(Australia).
I'm uncertain how scarce Australian products are.
I've turned up quite a number of VM(Australia)
made reels over here, suggesting quite a large
production run. Also a number of Australian made
model E viewers have turned up on the market over
the past few years. Sightseer reels also turn up occassionally ,
although only in ones and twos, but I've never seen a viewer.
Conversely I've come across several Photoscope
viewers but only ever two reels.
