P3D Re: depth police

One of the good things about participating in digest mode is that most of
the excitement has died down by the time I read the posts. This means I can
enjoy the dialog with a sense of detachment, and have the luxury of
relaxed, reasoned replies when the occassion arises.

I am, as usual, somewhat disturbed by a recurring laxity in terminology.

Anyone west of the Mississippi could tell you the Recognized Enforcer in
our art is the Stereo Sheriff, not this mythical "Depth Police."

"Depth Police" conjures up images of monocled men in black leather coats,
eye-twisting torture, salt mines and the grassy knoll.

The Stereo Sheriff is like Andy Devine and Jiminy Cricket. The Stereo
Sheriff lets your conscience be your guide.

The Depth Police want to punish the guilty. The Stereo Sheriff wants to
help you become a better (and happier!) person.

Straight Shootin' Pardners! ;-)
