The reason so many of us on P3D are now using "Stereoscopic" rather than
the long-preferred "3D" is simply because the term "3D" has become so
contaminated recently. It's used by computer graphics programs dedicated to
producing pictures with perspective but no perceivable depth, and also in
all kinds of weird and inappropriate ways by advertising hype for things
unrelated to "stereoscopic" images. In other words (and I'm sure the
semantics police are poised to jump all over me), something can be "3D"
without being "stereoscopic", but "stereoscopic" does imply that it's "3D".
