It's common.  The f3.5's often (mostly?) have vignetting when stopped down
fully.  One of the reasons to use a Kodak (sorry, couldn't resist).  :-)

The Realists f/2.8's don't do that (I wouldn't know personally, mine still 
has the focus knob stuck at 3.5' -- no doubt something I won't get around 
to fixing until I want to sell it :-).
