P3D numbering within digests

I receive this list in digest form.

The start of each digest lists the subject and sender name of contained, AND
NUMBERS THEM.

e.g.
> 2) P3D Re: Projectors
>by JoeKotsky@xxxxxxx
 > 3) P3D Rules....Schmools
>by Bob_Maxey@xxxxxxxxxxxx
 > 4) P3D Painters and perspective
>by Bob_Maxey@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Would it be possible for the each message to have this number added again at
the start of the message when it actually appears within the digest?

i.e.

>------------------------------
P3D digest 2968-3
>
>Date: Fri, 11 Sep 1998 15:31:11 -0600
>From: Bob_Maxey@xxxxxxxxxxxx
>To: photo-3d@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
>Subject: P3D Rules....Schmools

This would be helpful when I wish to refer back to a previous posting that
has been quoted. At present I look back through recent digests, until I find
it in the 'contents' listing, but then have to scroll through numerous
unrelated messages (of varying lengths) to find the original.
This is not that time consuming for a one-off, but when trying to follow a
'conversation'.....
