P3D Underwater photography in Tech-3d

Tom got his wish and the ball is rolling in tech-3d. Bill Costa
posted a very interesting account of underwater stereo photography.
He talked about how the effective focal length increases under water,
making shoter focal length lenses and also shorter interaxial distances
more appropriate for UW photography.

IMO, this posting should be posted in photo-3d because it involved
very little or no technical details or math. Explaining why is the FL
different under water using mathematical formulas is what is appropriate
for tech-3d.

The closest I have come to "underwater" photography was this summer in the
Seattle Aquarium. I saw a water tank above me and zillions of small-size
fish. Lifted my Realist and snapped 3 pictures. Truly "under" water.
Turned out very well with sun/shadows and many depth levels in the fish.
Judges in Detroit were unimpressed. Possibly it is more effective in a
viewer than projection.
